AI & Authenticity News Tracker
Platforms are now labelling AI music and AI-looking artists. The below information outlines the latest from DSPs on AI tagging on their platforms and appeals processes (if known). Rules are changing fast, so check back regularly for the latest.

Common Questions.
I use AI tools in my production. Will I be flagged as AI Persona?
Not for that alone. Spotify's AI Persona badge is about the identity you present, not your tools. Real people, stage names and non-photorealistic characters aren't flagged for using AI in the studio. Disclose it honestly in your credits.
I use a stage name and don't show my face. Is that a risk?
A stage name is fine. The risk is a photorealistic AI-generated "person" as your profile photo or artwork. Use real photos, illustration or abstract art instead, and add signs of a real artist: linked socials, a bio in your voice, live dates or merch.
What does "Verified by Spotify" have to do with this?
It's the opposite signal: a badge saying you're a real artist. It needs 10K monthly listeners for 3 months, 1K followers and authenticity markers on your profile. Eligibility details.
Someone uploaded an AI track pretending to be me.
Report it to your distributor and the platform. On Spotify, Artist Profile Protection (beta) lets you approve releases before they land on your profile.
I use AI in some of my production. If I disclose it in the credits when I upload with my distributor, what happens?
AI assisted music production is becoming more common and will not block a release upload. We reserve the right to block uploads of fully or partially AI generated music where we believe it may infringe on another rightsholder - whether this is likeness, voice, melody, trademark, deepfake, or other elements of the release that may be infringing.
Our policies in regards to fully AI generated music are changing regularly in response to ongoing litigation within the industry between record companies, distributors, rightsholders and AI firms.
What listeners see when AI credits are disclosed depends on the platform:
Disclosing some AI use doesn't block a release. Our team will check all elements of your release to ensure if meets our distribution policy requirements and DSP style guides. If a track is found to be fully or majority AI generated it may be rejected for delivery.
What listeners see depends on the platform:
- Spotify: your AI credits show in the song credits on mobile (beta, and only with distributors that support it). Disclosure doesn't trigger the AI Persona badge, because that badge is about how you present yourself as an artist, not your tools.
- Apple Music: a transparency tag shows on the parts you flagged (track, artwork, lyrics or video). Apple hasn't said these tags affect recommendations.
- Deezer and TIDAL: only fully AI-generated tracks are affected. Deezer leaves them out of algorithmic recommendations, and TIDAL doesn't pay royalties on them. AI-assisted music made by a human isn't treated this way.
In short, being upfront is the safer path. A track that's caught by detection later, after AI use wasn't disclosed, is more likely to be tagged or removed than one that was credited honestly.
